A day to take pride in
August 14 2014

The weather was kind on what turned out to be a lovely sunny day sandwiched in-between two rainy ones, when ALERT Researcher Yvonne Gordon held ‘Find Your Pride’ last Saturday.

The event, at Liverpool’s Sefton Park, was organised to celebrate World Lion Day 2014 and what a celebration it was!  As with last year’s ‘Find your Pride’, people were arriving constantly throughout the day to look for lions and to take part in the other activities.  What was very encouraging to see was that the information boards Yvonne had created all about lions and ALERT’s work were given every bit as much attention as the lion face painting and African drumming circle.  It was certainly a day of awareness building, as well as fundraising.

ALERT would like to thank Yvonne and everyone else who supported this event, either by helping out or by attending on the day.  A special thank you goes to Antelope Park volunteer Graham Waters, who travelled all the way from Oxfordshire to spend the weekend in Liverpool, just so he could be at the event and show his support for lions.  Even though he hadn’t met Yvonne or any her pride of organisers before, Graham made himself useful helping out on the stalls and ended up being one of the last to leave!

Yvonne said: ‘It was another great day.  The weather was beautiful and the fact that so many people came to show their support for lions is my inspiration for holding the event each year.  I'm already looking forward to ‘Find Your Pride 2015’!’
