Running in Circles
March 10 2013

On the 9th of March the research team located the pride moving south along Route 66 before resting in Ngamo's Etosha area.  After not long Milo, Kenge, Kwali and Phyre moved off towards water hole one, soon followed by the rest of the pride and visual was lost except for Ashanti and AT1.  Ashanti and AT1 soon became vigilant to the sounds of impala alarm calling in nearby.

Silence fell on the scene before the two lionesses rose to their paws and chased off.  The research team cautiously followed, first encountering the two 'K' cubs bouncing over a hill in the distance. The vehicle was brought to a halt when Nala emerged from the grassy plains with a fresh impala kill in her jaws.

Not wishing to lose any time, nor meat, Nala sprinted off with her kill, closely followed by five hungry cubs.  She fled through Serengeti East into Amboseli and through to the Camp area. The cubs, now with Narnia, continued to pursue Nala running in circles around the area and a very dizzy research team.

After carrying the kill and being chased for about 40 minutes Nala finally tired and sat down to start feeding.  The cubs and Narnia, also out of breath, rested cautiously nearby and watched Nala whilst she fed.  Narnia being a lower ranking female took this opportunity to assert her dominance over the cubs as they attempted to edge their way towards her sister and her meat. This presumably was to deter the cubs from eating any remains that may be left over rather than a sisterly favour.
