Sponsor a Lion

When you think of a lion, does the word vulnerable spring to mind?

Because that is exactly how the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) classifies them.

In the last 30 years alone, it is believed there has been an 80-90% population drop in the number of African lions due to the increase in human habitation; illegal hunting, snaring and poaching; and disease outbreaks, such as Bovine Tuberculosis and Canine Distemper.

We need your help to ensure the survival of the African lion before vulnerable turns into endangered. By sponsoring a lion you will be taking direct action to help replenish lion populations across Africa.

OPTION ONE - GBP 5.00 per month

You can sponsor the lions within stage one of the program.  This includes the adult lions at the breeding program and the cubs up to two and a half years old that are undertaking daily walks, day and night encounters.

For your generous donation you will receive the following benefits by email:

• A copy of Panthera leo: a species account;
• A monthly e-newsletter;
• Regular updates & photographs of lions in stage one of the program;
• Priority booking to any ALERT events;
• The knowledge that you are part of the ongoing solution.

OPTION TWO - From GBP 10.00 per month

You can also sponsor the lions that have been released into stage two of the program. 

For your generous donation you will receive the following benefits by email:

• A biography of your sponsored lion/s;
• A copy of Panthera leo: a species account;
• A monthly e-newsletter;
• Regular updates & photographs of your sponsored lion/s;
• Priority booking to any ALERT events;
• The knowledge that you are part of the ongoing solution.

What next?

You can make your payment using our on-line donation system by clicking on the link below. 

For monthly payments simply select that option.  for the other payment intervals make your payment using the one time option and we weill email you one week prior to your next due payment as a reminder.

Please also send an email to sponsor@lionalert.org giving us your name so we that we can tie up your payment to your sponsorship program.  In the case of sponsoring a release lion please also let us know which lions/s you have chosen to sponsor

Please note that it can take up to a week to determine that your payment has been recieved.

Are you sponsoring a lion for someone else?

If so, please also email us with the email details of the person who should receive the updates.  If you can also send us the date on which you want them to receive ther first update and what the occasion is (e.g. birthday / christmas) we can then personalize our communication to them.

We would ask you to read and agree to the terms and conditions below
before sponsoring a lion:

• There will be more than one person sponsoring each lion/s.
• Sponsorship does not entitle the donor to any rights of ownership or decision making over the future of the sponsored lion/s.
• ALERT uses sponsorship money to go to the general use of ALERT to further all of its projects and not necessarily towards the individual lion/s sponsored. Further, no funds will go towards elements of the program operated by our commercial partners, which includes the whole of stage one of the lion release program.
• If your sponsored lion dies or has to be put down at the recommendation of the project's vets, then you will be offered the option to cancel your sponsorship or to select another lion.  No refunds due on sponsorship paid.
